Originally an actual pigsty. A one-bedroom self-catering cottage with the layout turned on its head: bedroom downstairs (because it stays cooler), living and kitchen upstairs (where the views are).
The bedroom takes a super-king bed, dressed in proper linen, with a separate WC and walk-in shower next door.
Up the stairs is the heart of the place: an open-plan living and kitchen area with high exposed beams. A small reading nook by the kitchen window looks out across the orchard and the wildflower meadow. It's where most guests end up with their morning coffee.
Outside, a sunny patio out the front with picnic table and chairs, and direct access to the wildflower meadow and woods around the back.
Ten minutes from Falmouth, three from Penryn Campus, walking distance to the village pub. A characterful, quirky base for couples exploring Cornwall.

What guests say about Pigsty
"Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Pigsty! Richard was very warm and welcoming and we had everything we needed for a pleasant stay. The cottage was clean and cosy and just what we needed for a short getaway."
"We had the most relaxing time at the pigsty, with a great location, only a 10-minute drive to Falmouth and 40 minutes from other main locations in Cornwall. The accommodation was beautiful, a really clean kitchen, a comfy bed and welcoming hosts who were always quick to respond. A fantastic guide to what we could do whilst we were there, with recommendations for local food and entertainment. Would definitely recommend for a break, super excellent stay. Thank you, we will definitely be back in the future!!"
"We stayed at The Pigsty for a truly unforgettable Christmas getaway! The place has absolutely nothing in common with a pigsty - the cottage was impeccably clean and cosy, with plenty of little nooks for reading and knitting and other winter activities, a fully outfitted kitchen, and the most comfortable bed you will ever sleep on (even if you have back problems). Unlike most Cornish adventurers, we went without a car and discovered that Trewena still makes a great base for the driving-averse among us. The grounds themselves are beautiful, and there are some great nearby walking routes. For food: the Tea Bray'k café is just across the road, but it's worth doing a food shop in Penryn beforehand (local taxis are reliable and reasonably priced). Last and not least, Rich and Hellen are wonderful hosts! They live on the grounds and have excellent recommendations. Looking forward to returning!"
"Great Host, Great Location for exploring Cornwall. Would highly recommend. Lovely place to stay. You should stay here if you get a chance! Thank you for having me"
"we had a fab holiday staying in the pigsty at Trewena cottages. The property was clean and modern and was equipped with everything we needed and the welcome basket with tea, coffee etc and even a trewena cloth bag for carrying shopping was that extra special touch."
"The facilities are kid-friendly and the host is very amiable."
"We had a week in The Pigsty cottage at Trewena. The cottage was clean, cosy and comfortable with everything we needed. Our host Richard was very helpful when the shower wasn’t working properly. He replaced it without hesitation the next day … More"
"The Pigsty is absolutely charming, cosy and well equipped. We enjoyed a delightful 2-night stay. The hosts are friendly and so helpful. Such a great spot too: calm and scenic, yet very well placed for Falmouth, Penryn and exploring the local area. We had a fun and informative visit to the donkey sanctuary, just opposite. Loved spending time in the "nook" looking out with the binoculars, and just strolling through the beautiful garden/meadow area. Would highly recommend. We hope to return."
"Good and helpful communications with hosts before, during, and after our visit. Accommodation was clean and fresh, and as advertised. Great location if you want to be close to Falmouth and Penryn, with easy access to major roads to take you elsewhere in the region. Sits on a hill, so fresh air is abundant! We very much enjoyed our stay and intend to return. How good a recommendation is that?! :-)"
"We spent 4 nights at Richard's and felt very comfortable from the start. It is really a very nice, lovingly furnished and clean accommodation with a huge garden."
"Great hosts, lovely place to stay. The donkey sanctuary is worth a little walk and loved the tranquility of the grounds 😊 All in all, we had a lovely stay!"
"Great location to get everywhere. Richard was very kind and available, we had a good stay and hope to come back."
"This Airbnb I would highly recommend - Everything was pristine - comfy bed, spotless bathroom and kitchen - Lovely views from the upstairs windows. And above all Richard and Hellen are wonderful hosts - incredibly friendly and helpful. I'm sure we will be back!"
"We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful and peaceful cottage. The surroundings were so relaxing, and the home itself felt very warm and homely. Our host was excellent — welcoming, thoughtful, and made sure everything was perfect for our visit. We truly enjoyed our time here and would love to come back. Highly recommended!"
"We stayed with Rich and Hellen in the summer and found Trewena Cottages were an ideal base to explore the main sights in Cornwall ... Eden, St Michael's Mount, Kynance Cove and St Ives, and of course great for Falmouth. Trewena is very convenient with on-site parking and supermarket, pubs and places to eat nearby. The cottages have lovely peaceful grounds which are lovely to walk around and enjoy nature. Rich was a great host with lots of recommendations for hidden away beaches and off the beaten-path beauty spots."
"This beautifully converted farm building was a great find with all the modern comforts - fully appointed kitchen, spacious living space and bathroom, and even our own private outdoor space. The peaceful location in Cornwall was ideal for relaxing, and very near to the Penryn university campuses and Falmouth. The host was welcoming and helpful, making our stay even more enjoyable. Highly recommend!"
"Richard and Hellen were both lovely and took time to talk to us. We had a lovely relaxing stay in the Pigsty and are very likely to visit again."
"Nice location, friendly host and wife with good tips and nice bike rides in the area"
"The Pigsty was ideal for attending a conference in Falmouth, Richard was really helpful."
"Richard and Helen are very friendly and helpful. The Pigsty is a very nice place and cleverly arranged. It's nice that the living room is upstairs, so you have a very nice view of the garden and surroundings. The bed is really wonderful."
"A beautiful cottage which was clean and spacious. The location was perfect and peaceful. Richard was a great host who welcomed us when we arrived. We would definitely stay here again if we were in the area. Thanks!"
"Great place to stay and central to explore all ends of Cornwall. Richard was a great host."
"The Pigsty was an absolutely great little airBnB. The location is fantastic - with heaps of places to visit within easy reach - beaches, castles, walks and a lovely donkey sanctuary just round the corner. The place itself was just right for two - a well equipped modern kitchen, amazing views and lovely surroundings. Easy to find and easy to park! Richard was a responsive, friendly and helpful host and we’d happily stay at the Pigsty again!"
"Warm welcome from Helen and Richard, immaculate and comfortable accommodation, would highly recommend."
"Really friendly host and great property with everything you would need for an easy stay. Falmouth is an easy 10 minute drive with some lovely restaurants and a beautiful harbour. Easy to get around Cornwall from this location."
"One of the best places we have ever stayed in. Everyone should have a stay in the Pig Sty on their bucket list. The area was fantastic and Richard and Hellen were very helpful with things to see and do."
"very enjoyable stay. The accommodation was as described and very clean."
"Perfect cottage for a long weekend getaway exploring Cornwall. Richard was a great host, extremely friendly and very responsive both prior to and during our stay. Myself and my girlfriend both said we’d 100% stay here again. Couldn’t recommend the Pigsty highly enough."
"There was a slight hiccup with the water on our last evening, this beyond Richard’s control, & S.W.Water was contacted. In the interim Richard purchased and delivered bottles of water. Excellent host, going the extra mile. We would be happy to stay in The Pigsty if we are in the area again. Thank you Richard."
"Lovely holiday cottage, peaceful location. We had everything we needed and Richard was very welcoming and kind."
"Had a great week here! Thanks to the attentive but discrete owners. Dog enjoyed the field too and the buzzard that greeted us most mornings. Great location, quick (for Cornwall) routes to north or south coast depending on the weather and if you want to surf or paddle. Falmouth minutes away, best Fish and chips! Would return. Ian & Lesley, Gloucester."
"My wife and I had a lovely week in the Pigsty which is located perfectly for exploring Cornwall. The cottage is in a quiet location but not too far from local facilities. We found the owners, Richard and Helen, very friendly and helpful, and as they live onsite were available should there be any issues. The welcome pack with some essentials to get us going was a nice touch. The accommodation was clean and had everything we needed for our stay. I particularly like the upside down arrangement as it gave us some elevated views of the surrounding fields and gave me the opportunity to do some bird watching, especially great to see some buzzards. We would certainly recommend a stay here and are hoping to come back in the near future to explore some of the places we missed on this trip."
"We had a fabulous time at the Pigsty. The welcome pack was over and above expectation and much appreciated. Helen and Richard were exceptional hosts. Spud is a fabulous little thing. The bed was so comfy I wish I could have taken it home. Ideal location for south Cornwall. The Pigsty was well equipped, spotlessly clean, very peaceful. In other words PERFECT. We will be back!! Thank you Helen, Richard, Arthur and Spud. Good luck to you all and hope to see you again."
"Had a wonderful stay at Trewena. Setting is idyllic and close to Penryn and only a short drive to beautiful Falmouth. Nearby supermarket, pub and even a local craft beer brewery. Rich and Hellen were very friendly hosts with comprehensive local knowledge."
"Very cosy cottage. Bed very comfortable. Everything you need is there. Rich was really helpful."
"Our family stayed with Trewena last month 06/21, Richard and Hellen were fantastic in sorting us accommodation very last minute due to our original booking elsewhere being uninhabitable and dirty! They saved the day for us, or we were driving 6 hours back home, so we were extremely grateful to them. The accommodation is all newly refurbished, lovely quiet place in the countryside, but only 5 minutes from nearest supermarket where we popped in for breakfast sometimes and Falmouth and St Mawes only a few miles away, we drove all over to be honest. Richard was very helpful, came and showed us how to use the log burner late one evening when we got back, nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend Trewena."
"Very nice place to stay in very nice people that run it"
"We had a lovely week here. The cottage was lovely - cosy & comfortable. Richard & Hellen were on site if needed."
"Great value, lovely living space for guests and green fields all around, plus so close to Falmouth and 2 minutes away from a donkey sanctuary. I will be going back again. More"
